WINDHOEK – The Spanish Ambassador to Namibia, Carmen Díez, is impressed with the business performance of ‘Look 4ward Butchery & Restaurant’, a small business that benefited from the mentoring programme by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
The Otjozondjupa based business is run a by a rural group of individuals, who participated in the Spanish agency’s various training courses and have participated in the exchange programme. The programme was offered in conjunction with the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development.
Díez visited the business on July 14, 2014, to see on the growth of the business and on whether the members of the business are implementing what they learnt. She congratulated the members of the group and discussed the problems and challenges of the business. She inspected the site, the shop and equipment, together with the officials from the Regional Council.
The skill development project, that benefited the ‘Look 4ward Butchery & Restaurant’, focuses on rural SME’s in order to reinforce its capacities through training in various subjects, and additionally to support the Directorate of Rural Development Coordination of the MRLGHRD and the Regional Councils, in developing a new electronic monitoring, evaluation and reporting system (MERS).
The programme focuses on young people and women, and includes business and financial management of SMES, tailoring, gardening, brick making, poultry, carpentry and small livestock.
The ambassador said she is very satisfied with the results of the collaboration between Spain and Namibia. Both countries have been working together for the past 24 years, joining efforts towards human sustainable development and the fight against poverty, especially for the most vulnerable people in rural areas.
