WINDHOEK – André Strauss, the Deputy Director of Culture and Heritage in the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture, and his wife Anne died in a horrific road accident on Friday evening at around 18h30. The accident, which happened between Arandis and Swakopmund on the B2 road about 1km from the Husab mine, killed the Strauss couple instantly when their pick-up collided head-on with a truck.
It is alleged the driver of the oncoming truck swerved into the wrong lane to avoid hitting another truck that was stuck on the road due to a breakdown.
It was further indicated in the police report that the driver of the truck that had broken down failed to flag the breakdown with the use of red triangles as required by traffic law and the driver of the oncoming truck swerved to the right to avoid hitting the stationery truck, and as a result ended up colliding head-on with the pick-up.
