EENHANA – The Omundaungilo cultural festival saw both learners and adults from two constituencies, Omundaungilo and Oshikunde partaking in the competition.
About 25 adult and youth cultural groups participated at the festival. Eight groups emerged winners and were awarded with trophies and prize money of N $ 300 each. From the Oshikunde constituency, the Ndaitavela, Tumenge and Hamundja cultural groups emerged winners in the junior category and the Epumba cultural group in the adult category. The other groups who won trophies plus a cash prize of N$ 300 from Omundaungilo constituency group were Tomonyeke cultural group, Hamuandja cultural group and Nafye Otweya in the junior category while Hadibo Momukalele won in the adult group.
The Omundangilo cultural festival project was initiated by Councillor Festus Ikanda who co-founded the celebrations together with schools and communities in the two constituencies. Ikanda explained that that the Directorate in the Ministry of Youths, National Service and Culture has also supported the festival some logistical and materially. Traditional food, fruits and meat, Oshiwambo chicken were also on sale as part of the festival celebrations. “We are not only aimed at celebrating the creative potential and the rich diverse cultural heritage of the Oshikwanyama people, but it’s also an opportunity for school learners and adults to showcase their talents since they are from Oshikwanyama tradition,” explained Ikanda.
