WINDHOEK – The dust just refuses to settle in the long drawn out dispute between Katutura glamour football club African Stars and the country’s football authorities.
Namibian football has been thrown into further turmoil after the much anticipated MTC Premiership abbreviated clash between Katutura rivals African Stars and FNB Orlando Pirates ended goalless at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, last night.
The result means Stars finishes second behind reigning champions Black Africa (46 points), one point-off the pace but the Reds would have none of that and claimed that Pirates defaulted by fielding an ineligible player in the shape of striker, Merwyn Areseb.
A furious Stars coach Woody Jacobs told reporters after the match that his club has filed a protest in that regard claiming that they are in possession of the team return which clearly states that Areseb was substituted in the abandoned clash and should has no further part to play in the rescheduled match.
However, his counterpart Ali Akan, laughed off the suggestion rubbishing the claim as hogwash. Should Pirates be found guilty of the offense, the club could forfeit the three points that would allow Stars to claim first spot through the back door and lay claim to the coveted MTC Premiership title.
The Ghosts were leading comfortably with a 2-0 score line in the original match that was prematurely abandoned as a result of power outage. Ironically, a large crowd turned out for last night’s eight minutes of action that saw both teams climb into each other with no quarter asked or given.
