WALVIS BAY – A 35-year-old woman from Otjiwarongo, Estelle Louw, and a male passenger died on the spot in a horrific accident when the car they were travelling in collided with a Land Cruiser on Saturday.
Details about the male passenger were not released yesterday as his next of kin were not yet informed.
Two other passengers in the car sustained injuries and one of the two were transferred to Windhoek for treatment. The driver of the Land Cruiser did not sustain any injuries.
The four occupants of the car had attended a wedding in Walvis Bay and were returning home to Otjiwarongo.
According to the Namibian Police Crime Investigations Coordinator, Ottillie Kashuupulwa, the accident occurred around 21h00.
Kashuupulwa said the driver of the Land Cruiser failed to heed a stop sign and collided with the sedan. The driver was identified as Jean Cilliers and was arrested on the spot. He appeared yesterday in the magistrate’s court.
Kashuupulwas said Cilliers faces a charge of culpable homicide, and drunk and reckless driving.
In other news, two police officers were slightly injured when the one lost control of the police van in which they were chasing a suspect.
