WINDHOEK– Marking six years of existence, the Free Your Mind Stand-up Comedy celebrates their anniversary with an all ladies show at the Warehouse Theatre under the theme ‘100% Namibian’ next Thursday.
Ndemfayo ‘Chicken’ Kaxuxuena, Co-founder of Free Your Mind Stand-up Comedy, says the night will feature ladies only because that’s how the concept began and chose to stick to it as it represents so much. “First of all there is nothing sexier than a woman who makes you crack your ribs out, it’s like she is your homie and you can talk about anything. Woman represents birth and Free Your Mind embodies the essence of life, a simple smile goes a long way and this is the service we provide making you smile if not laugh your lungs out,” says Chicken.
Chicken adds that getting audience to believe in them was then a challenge, which led them to spend hours working on their craft to deliver better results every time they perform. “The crucial experience is going out and knowing that people honour your courage to commit yourself to such a product, or being considered a progressive citizen even when you are only being funny feels great,” she says. Chicken share some of Free Your Mind jokes that made highlights and kept fans coming and asking for more from a line-up that includes comedians like Iileka, Fernando, Sick, Courage and Weezils.
Chicken says all in Namibia are developing a Namibian identity and Free Your Mind wants to play a part in that. “Funny enough we all know what a Brazilian is and although we are not at Brazil for the 2014 world cup it is because Namibians ladies are worried that they might meet the original owners of their Brazilians hair,” he concludes.
