WINDHOEK – With the 2104 FIFA World Cup in full swing the global showpiece is gaining greater momentum with lots of ongoing fanfare around the world.

In war-torn countries the trauma has been temporarily forgotten with friend and foe uniting and putting their differences aside, albeit for the time being, to rejoice in the joy of the beautiful game.

Right here on our doorsteps, World Cup fever has also spiraled with people from all walks of life gathering and putting their political and religious run-ins, as well as club allegiances, on hold.

The Ka Bistro Pub, a popular bar in Dolam, Katutura is the ultimate destination for many football lovers who want to enjoy the live broadcasts of various matches as boys are being separated from the men.

If you are a football fan and don’t exactly know where to go and watch the live broadcasts in the company of friends while having fun, Ka Bistro Pub is just what the good doctor ordered.

Revellers will not only be able to enjoy the occasion and mingle freely with each other but also have the opportunity to bid farewell to Lena-Sharon Keister, one of 20 lucky winners who won tickets for two to go and watch selected matches in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, courtesy of a Samsung competition.

The theme of the gathering has been duped ‘Road to Brazil’ and starts at 12h00 with several prizes at stake.

Pub owner, Franciska /Gases, says apart from the mixture of mouth-watering activities on the programme, facilities will be availed for barbeques. She encourages revellers to be strictly attired in African regalia in support of Africa’s representatives at the global showpiece.

Across the city, the Goethe-Centre Windhoek in cooperation with the German Embassy is showing the games of the German national team as well as the final live at the centre. Entrance is free.

– Saturday, 21 June 20:00 – Germany vs Ghana

– Thursday, 26 June 19:00 – Germany vs USA

There will also be an official football shirt auction on Saturday at 19h15 at the centre.

The ‘Deutsche Fußball Bund’ (DFB) donated a much sought-after original DFB football shirt that will be publicly auctioned under the auspices of the Chargé d’Affaires of the German Embassy, André Scholz.

All players of the German national team have hand-signed the shirt, which bears the German Eagle.

It is not a fan-shop shirt but has been especially designed and made for the players of the German football team.

Starting offer for the football shirt is N$2 014. Funds generated from the auction will be donated to a selected charity.
