Home Youth Corner Youth invited to give proposals on HIV, AIDS prevention promotion

WINDHOEK– The United States (US) Embassy in Namibia through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, also known as PEPFAR is inviting any young person from school goers to non school goers to submit proposals  for the  promotion of  Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection / Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) prevention among the youth between the ages of 10 to 19 years.

PEPFAR-funded grants aim on educating people, especially youth, about HIV and AIDS and thereby preventing its spread; reducing stigma and encouraging safe practices for those living with the disease; and supporting communities to cooperate in fighting the epidemic. Proposals should focus on increasing community awareness of HIV/AIDS and promoting discussion and action to combat HIV/AIDS in The Bahamas.  The program strongly supports creative, original, and innovative activities including but not limited to, promotional risk-reduction and prevention messages, voluntary counselling and testing promotion, training and education opportunities, promotional contests, etc. and encourages activities enlisting the input and involvement of persons living with HIV/AIDS.  Priority will be given to projects demonstrating collaboration among local Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO).

The projects should be completed within 12 months and the maximum funding limitation per project is $25000 (about N$150,000). The project proposal must be accompanied by a one page summary that includes the name of the project and organisation, the geographic location, the key objectives,  target group, primary activities, expected results of the project, amount of funding requested and name and contact information of project coordinator. Proof that the organisation is legally registered in Namibia must also be submitted with the proposal.

All proposals must use the 2014 PEPFAR Small Grants Programme Application template which can be requested via email at NamibiaHIVgrants@state.gov and same email applies to proposal submission. The deadline for project proposals is June 30. Late submissions will not be accepted. Visit http://windhoek.usembassy.gov for more information.
