WINDHOEK– All young people between 18 and 30 years can now apply to attend the One Young World Summit  (OYWS) 2014  in Dublin, Ireland in October.

OYWS is one of the primary activities of the One Young World (OYW), a non-profit organisation, which provides opportunities for young adults to join in a global network of socially committed individuals with leadership potential.

OYWS aims to bring together the younger generation’s brightest and best to ensure that their concerns, opinions and solutions are heard. From there, they take action, driving positive change in their communities, companies and countries.

The first step towards attending the OYWS is to submit an application, which should display skills and traits such as an evidenced commitment to effecting positive change. This commitment can come in many forms ranging from a high level of involvement in community initiatives to social entrepreneurship or from leading responsible business practices to public service, leadership ability, concern for local or global issues, ability to generate and articulate impactful ideas as well as teamwork.
Once your application has been accepted, you can book a place at the One Young World Summit 2014 in Dublin by paying your delegate fee of 48113.17 (excluding VAT). Each fee covers the following expenses including the hotel (accommodation on a shared basis in Dublin for four nights, for the nights of 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th October), catering (for breakfast, lunch and dinner on 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th October and breakfast only on 19th October), transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue, access to the Summit and summit hand-outs and support materials.

OYW may recommend candidates for funding when potential sponsors have sought advice, if, for example, they are looking for a candidate active in a specific sector. However, OYW cannot guarantee any candidate that they will be chosen for sponsorship or that they will be recommended for sponsorship.

The only way for any candidate to ensure that they have the funds to attend the Summit is to raise it independently by finding an organisation or individual to sponsor them. This year’s summit is about young people being innovative leaders and taking action as well as making sure that they are not sleep walked into the agendas of others.

OYW was founded in 2009. Every year, the organisation brings together young leaders from across the globe to find innovative solutions for some of the world’s most pressing issues, including: climate change, youth unemployment, human rights, security, HIV/AIDS, and governance.

More countries are represented at the annual OYWS than any other global youth event other than the Olympics.Since OYW birth in 2010, there have been four Summits. The inaugural Summit took place in London, UK on February 8–10, 2010. Subsequent summits were held in Zürich (Geneva), Pittsburgh (USA) and Johannesburg (South Africa). The 2014 Summit will be held in Dublin, Ireland from 15 – 19 October.
