WINDHOEK-After turning the Warehouse Theatre upside down with his enormous performances last month, Namibia’s most celebrated guitarist Jackson Wahengo, has left the country to pursue his musical career abroad.
According to Wahengo, he moved to Geneva Switzerland seven years ago, but he has been coming to Namibia from time to time visiting his families and shares his new music with fans. “My stay in Namibia has been successful as I also launched my long waited acclaimed debut album, Akwetu Hewa, which attracted many music lovers to the Warehouse Theatre,” says Wahengo in a Facebook Interview.
Wahengo is an artist who is heavily rooted in the African tradition, blended with contemporary urban sounds and strong influences of Jazz, Rumba, Soukous and Reggae, in a new shape and form of musical fusion. The Akutu Hewa album places Namibia on the world music map. The 14-track album tells the stories of a contemporary and traditional Namibian society and politics through hordes of influences performed in compositions full of layers and detail that in a groovy way to come together as one. His music has its very own sense of rhythm expressed in strong harmonies and skilful guitar riffs, typical for southern Africa and yet blended with ultra-contemporary sounds and flavour of different genres.
