WINDHOEK – A police officer who was responsible for cash booked in by inmates made a fourth appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court last week.

The suspect Paulus Paulus initially made his first appearance before Magistrate Ingrid Unengu on January 27 for the theft of N$41 463.

The alleged theft occured at the Windhoek police station between January 01 and 24 2014.

The accused was denied bail at his first appearance for fear that he might interfere with the present police investigation. That decision was however later rescinded and he was granted bail of N$10 000 in February with the condition that he not interfere with the police investigation. The other condition was that he should not interfere with  state witnesses.

The case was then remanded to March for further investigation when it was postponed to May.

During the accused’s appearance on Friday last week, the docket was not at court and State Prosecutor Nangombe Kandiwapa asked for another postponement to trace the docket. 

Unengu granted the application after defence counsel Mbanga Siyomundji did not object and postponed the matter to June 11 to enable the police to make available the docket.
