WINDHOEK – The fundraising Fun Day held at Windhoek International School (WIS) on Saturday to raise money for the children at Maggie’s Sunhouse Orphanage has been described as a success by the organisers.
One of the organisers, Patricia Bandora, a volunteer at the orphanage and also an IB student at WIS, organised the fundraising with the support of the Social Welfare Department of the City of Windhoek. The fun day was attended by many, including teachers, parents and students from WIS with their family and friends taking in different activities like car wash while the children had fun at the jumping castle and had face-paint and not to speak of music. “My classmates, teachers and family helped make this event successful and children from Maggie’s Sunhouse were happy and that made me feel accomplished and proud of what I was doing for them,” says Bandora.
Everyone that attended enjoyed themselves and their support and encouragement, made the event even more fruitful. The funds raised will be used to buy educational toys, school supplies and winter clothes for the children at the orphanage. “I enjoy volunteering and helping those in need. I also believe that students should try and help their community as much as they can. It is an act of kindness,” says Bandora. Bandora goes to the Meggie’s Sunhouse once a week to help the orphans with their home-work, reading books with them, cooking and playing games with them. “Each day I go there sharing their experience make me realise that I should be grateful to be privileged,” she says.
