… Three-horse race for league title
WINDHOEK – With four rounds of matches left before the curtain closes on the current football term the race for glory in the MTC Premiership has become a closely contested affair with the victor most likely to emerge from the trio of reigning champions Black Africa, Tigers and FNB Orlando Pirates.
Going into their fourth successive league campaign without a single league title to their credit, Katututa glamour football club African Stars appear to have fallen out of the race and will have to be content with fourth place – certainly not good enough for an ambitious club with a huge following.
Thousands of Reds followers feel cheated big time by the club’s lukewarm showing and justifiably believe they deserve better returns. Looking at their current position on the log standings, it will take a Herculean effort for Woody Jacobs’ misfiring lads to stage a serious challenge for the elusive league title.
Stars have a tough assignment on their wobbly hands when they greet a rejuvenated Ramblers side at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tonight at 19h00. Both teams go into the tie in high spirits and are fresh from victories in last weekend’s action against Eleven Arrows and PC Blue Boys respectively.
The arrival of former Brave Warriors burly centre back Oliver Risser seemed to have stabilized Ramblers’ previously leaky defence and the Reds will be cautioned against complacency when they come up against their old nemesis.
