OSHAKATI – Five people were rushed to hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds sustained during a public brawl between security guards and bus terminal masters at a public taxi loading terminal in Oshakati on Sunday.
According to information from Oshana regional police commander, Commisioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa, one gun went off unintentionally in a fight between security guards and bus terminal masters, wounding five people in the legs. Kashihakumwa cautioned security guards to apply their training when it comes to handling amunition in public areas to avoid similar incidents from happening in future.
Kashihakumwa said a fight erupted between a so-called bus master and a security guard Sunday morning around 09h00 at the Okatana Service Station. Eventually the fight that started off with two people turned into a brawl involving other bus masters and security guards present.
While the fighting went on one of the security guards accidentaly reached out to touch the gun of a fellow security guard, which went off accidentally injuring five people in the process.
Two security guards and three other people sustained gunshot wounds in the legs during the rampage and are said to be in a stable condition in the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital. Kashihakumwa further said the shooting was not intentional and the security guard responsible is in police custody, while police are investigating the incident.
The fight took place at the popular bus terminal opposite the Oshakati Open Market.
