WINDHOEK – Namibia has congratulated the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Madagascar, Christopher Roger Kolo, for the appointment of a new cabinet that was announced on April 16. President Hery Rajaonarimampianina elected Kolo as PM on April 11.
Namibia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is also the chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, said these two important undertakings brought to a close the long process of establishing the government in Madagascar.
“In full appreciation of this achievement, the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security heartily congratulates the government and people of Madagascar for successfully forging ahead with national reconciliation and nation rebuilding and pledge SADC continuous support,” she said, reiterating the call to the international community to continue to render support to the government and people of Madagascar in their national efforts to further entrench democracy and national reconstruction.
Kolo studied at the University of Antananarivo from 1970 to 1977, where he obtained a degree in medicine.
He specialised in surgery at a hospital in France before he undertook further studies in Geneva, Switzerland, and became a radiologist.
The newly-appointed PM then started three private centres of radiology in the period 1997 to 2003. He returned to Madagascar in 2013 to participate in the Malagasy presidential election, but his candidacy was not accepted due to not fulfilling the residency condition.
Madagascar is an island country in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of southeast Africa.
