WINDHOEK– The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) is giving away 400 tickets to students at the coast to ensure that they get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend this year’s NAMAS grand finale awards ceremony.

Tickets will be given to students of the Namibia Institute for Mining and Technology (NIMT), based in Arandis, which will receive 200 tickets; the Namibian Institute for Marine and Fisheries Training receiving 120 tickets while  the remaining 80 tickets has been earmarked for the International University of Management (IUM) Swakopmund campus.

“We have opted for tertiary students in order to play it safe in terms of age, so that we don’t have under-aged students at the event because that would be irresponsible of us,” says Tim Ekandjo, NAMAS Executive Chairperson.  “We have also extended invitations to the leadership of the Erongo region, the Honourable Governor and the Mayors of all the towns in the Erongo region, so that they can come and celebrate this national event with us. I can now confirm that the Right Honourable Prime Minister will also attend the NAMAS 2014 event, as will several honourable ministers including the Minister of Youth, National Service Sports and Culture, Minister of Fisheries and Minister of Information and Communication Technology. We want our national leaders to be part of such events so that they can appreciate the effort that Namibian artists put into their art,” says Ekandjo.

Ekandjo encouraged corporations and the inhabitants of the Erongo region to buy their tickets. “This year the NAMAS are in your region and as host we want to see you there in your numbers. I therefore encourage you to get your tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointments,” he entices.

The NAMAS awards ceremony is taking place on May 3 at the Swakopmund Sports Indoor Centre. Tickets cost N$500 VIP and N$250 for standard, and are available at Computicket outlets at Shoprite branches nationwide.
