WINDHOEK – Defending champions, SKW 1 and Cohen FC 3 retained their top spot in the National A and B leagues respectively, following superb performances in the second round of the Bank Windhoek National Fistball Championships at the SKW Sport Fields in Windhoek last weekend.
Title contenders SKW 1 led by former national team coach, Stefan Grögli, had a tough day last Saturday enduring a close encounter with 3rd placed, SKW 2. The latter with inspirational Christoph Kubirske in attack took a quick 2:0 lead, before SKW 1 found their feet in the game to win four sets in succession to take the game with 4:2 sets.
Second placed Cohen FC 1 could have overtaken SKW 1 at the top of the log, but failed to beat SKW 2. The Imawida second strings triumphed by a narrow margin of 4:3 sets. Seasiders SFC 1, remained 4th on the log standings after winning comfortably against bottom side Cohen FC 2.
The National B League remains firmly in the hands of Cohen FC 3 as the defending champions are yet to lose a match in the current term. Cohen continued their good form by claiming 2 wins from the same number of games to take them 5 points clear of nearest rivals DTS. DTS are level on points with SFC 2 in second spot, but have a superior points difference following their confidence boosting 4:1 vicotry over Swakopmund. Although his team was not sucessfull, U-18 player Rico Stührenberg of SFC 2 walked away with the DANRIC Auto Player of the Day trophy for his outstanding performance in defence.
SKW 3 are perched in 4th place with Cohen FC 4 occupying the last place on the log standings with only one point from 6 matches. The next league meeting takes place on the June 7, 2014. During the two-month break from league action, the annual Coastal Indoor Fistball Tourney will be played in Swakopmund on May 10, while the U-18 national team travels to Brazil for the U-18 World Championships.
