Home Sports Title race heats up in bowls leagues

WINDHOEK – The title races of the various divisions of the Namibian National Bowls League are heating up after some sizzling action across the country last weekend.

The TransNamib Bowling Club (TBNC) continued with their stronghold on top of the men and women’s divisions, while the Eros Bowling Club (EBC) leads the mixed division. However, other pursuers are hot on the leaders’ heels, particularly the Rossmund Bowling Club (RBC), who are currently in fine form. After last weekend’s action, TBNC, EBC and RBC are equal on 12-points, although the Eros Club managed to edge ahead slightly due to their better shot aggregate.

The Eros Club started the weekend in familiar fashion, beating Namib Park Bowling Club (NPBC) with 28:6 on Saturday. On Sunday, the Eros players crashed to a 14:11 defeat to Rossmund, giving the seasiders a chance to close the gap on top of the log. The TransNamib team was only in action on Saturday, celebrating a 19:12 win against the Tsumeb Bowling Club (TBC).

In the men’s division, the Rossmund players also continued their impressive run of form, winning both their games against the Windhoek Country Club (WCC) and Eros Club respectively. Not to be outdone by their male team members, the ladies team of the Rossmund Club emerged victorious from both their games, a 20:8 win over WCC on Saturday followed by a 14:11 win over EBC on Sunday. Only two points currently separate the Rossmund ladies from the top team TransNamib. Currently sitting on equal points with RBW, the ladies from Eros should not be written off since they are still in a position to fight for top honors. Meanwhile, there seems to be no stopping the second division players of the Eros Club. They are already eight points clear of second placed TransNamib Bowls Club. In the overall standings, TransNamib sit in first place with 35 points in total, while the Eros Club hangs on to second place with 31 points. They are followed by the Rossmund Club on 27 points in third place, while fourth-placed Namib Park Club have 21 points.
