WINDHOEK – It was relatively quiet on the crime front in the Khomas Region over the weekend it was revealed by Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi yesterday.
Speaking during the weekly crime briefing he said the partly decomposed body of 28-year-old Josef Mevava Kamundu was discovered on Thursday April 03 by passersby near Kwasa Kwasa between Greenwell Matongo and Havana.
The remains of Kamundu, who had been reported missing since February 27, were found deeply hidden in some bushes surrounded by high grass. He was dressed in black jeans, a red T-shirt and black sneakers (takkies).
According to Kanguatjivi a wallet containing a Namibian ID, two ATM cards, a voter registration card, a driver’s licence, N$80 in N$20 notes and a cellphone were found on the body.
Forensic experts visited the scene and estimated the corpse had been lying in the bushes for more than a month.
Police suspect foul play and a case of murder CR 103/04/2014 was opened at the Wanaheda police station. His next of kin was informed and police investigations continue.
The Woman and Child Protection Unit will open a case of attempted murder for the State after a victim of a panga attack refused to lay charges against her boyfriend who allegedly slashed her on the head and arms.
The 25-year-old woman who was not identified was admitted to the Katutura hospital where she was in a stable condition. It is alleged the victim and the perpetrator who is known to the police got involved in a heated argument before the assault.
The incident allegedly happened at Zambia Street, Havana at about 20h00 on April 05. The suspect ran away after the incident and police investigations continue.
A 22-year-old disabled woman was allegedly raped by a 46- year-old man in the early hours of Saturday night.
It is alleged the suspect entered the room of the victim through a broken window at a house in Riet-oog in the Klein Aub area. The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Rehoboth magistrate’s court today on a charge of rape.
A case of murder was opened at the Aroab police station after 38-year-old Piet Ambrossius Rooi was allegedly stabbed once in the neck with a broken bottle.
According to the crime report, Rooi and the suspect were drinking together at Club Desert Stream when a quarrel broke out between them over the liquor.
The suspect then allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed Rooi once in the neck. He was rushed to Aroab clinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His next of kin was informed and a 27-year-old suspect believed to be related to the deceased was arrested and will appear in the Aroab magistrate’s court today.
A housebreaking and theft suspect tasted short-lived freedom after he was arrested barely four hours after escaping from the Keetmanshoop charge office.
The incident happened on Friday, April 04 and the suspect will appear in the Keetmanshoop magistrate’s court today on charges of housebreaking and theft as well as escaping from lawful custody.
A 75-year-old male was killed when a 35-year-old suspect who attempted to park a vehicle under a tree where the deceased and three other people were sitting at Omundaungilo village allegedly drove over the deceased.
It is alleged that the unlicensed driver drove over Iyambo Mutomba and in the process also hit and seriously injured 36-year-old Justina Gabriel and slightly injured 23-month-old Nelita Alexander.
Another of his victims was identified as 39-year-old Indileni Mwafengeyo who also sustained serious injuries. The suspect was arrested and will make a first appearance in the Ohangwena magistrate’s court today on charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving and driving without a valid licence.
