WINDHOEK – The Independence Street Mile took place in Windhoek last Saturday and as expected, athletes delivered some sensational action right from the word go.

The race started at the Miami Service Station in Katutura, where athletes from as far as the Oshikoto, Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati, Omaheke, Erongo, Karas regions and hosts Khomas Region all proved to be true ambassadors for their respective regions as they delivered some blistery performances, which kept many onlookers on their toes as about 250 athletes wound through the streets of Windhoek. The event organizing committee has now decided to make the Street Mile part and parcel of the country’s Independence Day celebrations, and plans are also underway to take the competition to all regions of the country and also to make it an integral part of the national athletics calendar.
