RUNDU – The Rundu Town Council was yesterday hard at work with preparations to host Independence Day celebrations on Friday at the Rundu sports stadium, as part of the 24th independence anniversary activities of the Rundu Urban Constituency.
“The event planning is going well and we have been having meetings to ensure that all is in place,” said Benjamin Makayi, the public relations officer of the Rundu Town Council.
Makayi said many activities were planned for the day, such as soccer matches, cultural performances and shows by local artists who will be performing for free. Learners who did well at school will be honoured with prizes on the day.
Frieda Siwombe, the councillor of Kapako Constituency in Kavango West, said the Independence Day celebrations in the constituency are planned for March 29 because constituency councillors will be attending the 24th independence anniversary main event in Windhoek.
All the constituencies in Kavango West will have one combined celebration at the town of Nkurenkuru, while the constituencies in Kavango East will have a joint celebration on March 29, which will be celebrated in Ndonga Constituency.
