…13th victory in Coca Cola Top-10

 

WINDHOEK – The Windhoek High School Athletics Club (WHSAC) scooped top honours at the recently concluded Coca Cola Top-10 Championship, after accumulating a total of 8430 points to emerge as overall winners of the championship for the 13th time last Saturday at the Windhoek Independence Stadium.

The WHSAC men’s team scored a total of 3962 points, while the women’s team bagged 4448 points to ensure they secure the top spot. Windhoek Gymnasium Athletics Club (WGYMAC) followed in 2nd position with 6300 points after their men’s team scooped 2840 points and the women added 3460 points to score a total 6300 points. In 3rd places was Well’77 Athletics Club, who took home a total 4625 points when their men’s team bagged 1706 points, while their women’s team returned the compliment with 2919 points to ensure they seal a 3rd place finish with 4625 points in total. Namib Lions Athletics Club managed a 4th place finish after collecting 3829 points in total (1281 men, 2548 women), while Golden Cheetah Athletics Club took a consolation 5th place when they only managed to collect 3422 points.

The championship drew more than 150 athletes from 11 athletics clubs countrywide, who were all eyeing top prizes as evidenced by their splendid performances during the course of the highly competitive event. Various athletes were also individually recognized for their flawless performance, amongst them was Desiree Kandovazu from Namib Lions Athletics Club who collected 750 points in the women’s 400m race, while Ernst Narib of Golden Cheetah Athletics Club managed to collect 1250 points in the men’s 400m sprint. Kristine Kruger of WHSAC was also recognized for her 805 points in the high jump event, while Salomon Tuaire of Golden Cheetah Athletics Club also excelled in the high jump event after collecting 770 points. In the javelin throw Hella Kuppe of WHSAC collected 1036 points and Wilhelm Rademeyer was also on target for WHSAC with 1085 points in the shot put. Elien Britz of WGYMAC scored a total of 530 points in the 100m hurdles race, with Divan Rossouw of WGYMAC also raking in 885 points in the 110m hurdles race. Well’77 was also put on the map by middle distance runner Klaudia Moses with her 911 points in the women’s 800m event, while Daniel Nghidapadulwa was on target for Nampol Athletics Club with 945 points in the men’s 800m race.
