BANGANGTE – Namibian professional cyclist Dan Craven has taken the overall lead at the Tour the Cameroun when he secured 2nd place at the 5th stage on Saturday.
The former African champion, now riding for the Germany-based development team ‘Bike Aid – Ride for Help’, fought for the win in an epic four-man sprint, which was eventually clinched by German rider Benjamin Stauder in an astonishing time of 02:49:19. The veteran Namibian cyclist was awarded the same time with only centimetres separating the pair after 100 kilometres. Issiaka Fofana of the Ivory Coast finished 3rd, 3 seconds off the pace. Craven was also the proud recipient of the yellow jersey as he leads the overall standing with a total time of 21:58:14 hours. Stauder, however, is a mere six seconds adrift of Craven with only two more stages to go.
Patrick Kos of the Netherlands, who led for the first two stages, currently sits in 3rd spot 9 seconds behind the bearded Namibian. As it stands, Craven managed to accumulate a commendable second place finish in total, while an outright win has eluded him so far.
