WINDHOEK – A 24-year-old woman became the latest victim of the ever increasing cases of domestic violence after she was fatally stabbed with a kitchen knife allegedly by her boyfriend in front of her four-year-old son.
The victim, Tiffani Titan Lewin, who suffered multiple stab wounds was allegedly attacked by her 28-year-old boyfriend after the two had an argument.
The incident that has been confirmed by the City Police Chief Abraham Kanime took place on Monday night at between 21h00 and 22h00 in Garnet Street in the vicinity of Parkfoods shopping mall in Khomasdal.
Lewin’s demise brings to a shocking 38 the number of women who have died at the hands of their lovers since January 2013 to date, in what could be categorised as crimes of passion that have outraged the entire nation.
Although information is sketchy at this stage, Tiffani reportedly rented an outside room at a certain house and her boyfriend used to visit her there.
It is not yet clear what led the boyfriend to take her life, but other tenants said prior to the incident they heard the couple hurling insults at each other.
When the tenants called the police, the suspect had already fled the scene leaving his girlfriend’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
Deputy Commissioner Sylvanus Nghishidimbwa, the Khomas Regional Crime Coordinator also confirmed the incident, saying they are still waiting for the autopsy to determine the number of stab wounds the deceased sustained.
The suspect was arrested yesterday in the morning between 02h00 and 04h00 and is expected to appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court today.
“No one knows what really happened. There was no witness. Her body was found lying in a pool of blood,” said Inspector Stephan Nuuyi from the Namibian Police Public Relations Division.
According to the City Police, more than 10 stab wounds were observed on the woman’s lifeless body. The couple’s son apparently came from the backyard whilst holding a knife and crying, but that did not create any suspicion with the landlord, who only tried to calm him down.
