Pinehas Nakaziko
FOR the first time I have to make a public oath of declaration to whoever cares to listen that I shall never ever kill, cut the throat of or maim in any manner my girlfriend. This shall be one of my sacred principles that I promise never to go against.
When I think of Namibian men, I always ask myself, what is really wrong with them and their acts of so-called ‘passion killings’? One way or the other, I am at pains to comprehend that passion killing is a crime committed out of heartache or the results of emotional outbursts immediately after a relationship has gone bad. However, it is hard to reconcile as we all have our principles that we have set before doing something crazy. Imagine killing someone; is that the only solution we can find? Why don’t you just walk away and move on with your life? Or at least hang yourself, if decreasing Namibian population is the end game here.
Namibia is rocked by these killings and women, especially unmarried women, are the ones at risk of being slaughtered like wild animals. The main cause appears to be a misunderstanding or breakdown of the relationship between (ex-) girlfriend (or wife) and boyfriend (or husband).
Women end relationships when men do wrong like cheating with other women. But then men would claim that they have spent a lot on a woman like paying for tuition fees and other women demands. They do not want the relationship to end.
People are demanding the death penalty be reintroduced. Women are saying men should stop giving material things and at the same time stop demanding from women things like sex while not married as it is like buying love and there is no true love.
In one of the daily newspapers this week, the Founding Father Dr Sam Nujoma remarked that whoever is going to kill our women would be buried alive. Will this change the nation? As far I am concerned the death of women is still going forward.
I suggest men should expect the unexpected to happen and understand because women do not kill men when they do wrong things. But when men feel betrayed not only do they kill the women but they kill themselves too.
Men support groups should be created in Namibia to advise and help men because women are now nervous and afraid of saying anything. Namibian men are no better than animals. Women too must make their right decisions before they commit to any man. The government and the private sector need to perhaps conduct in-depth research to determine what exactly is causing all these random killings.
These killings are destroying Namibian families because most of the people being killed are breadwinners of their families or were about to become breadwinners, like students. If such killings are going to continue then Namibians will have no peace. People will be fighting each other because it is so hard to forgive someone for smashing your foot while they are still standing on it.
