By Wezi Tjaronda WINDHOEK This is the twelfth consecutive year that the faithful are going to gather to pray about different issues affecting Namibia. Close to 600 people are expected to participate at this year’s prayer conference, which will be held at Concordia College from this evening, Thursday, April 13 until Monday, April 17. The conference this year is being held under the theme “Destroying the Horns of Wickedness”. Intercessors United, a ministry under the Light of the World Ministries, holds yearly Intercessors Prayer conferences, which idea was developed in 1994 but the first conference started the following year during Easter in Okakarara. Since then, the ministry has successfully held prayer conferences during the Easter weekend when hundreds of the faithful come together in different towns and pray for the favour of the Lord on many different topics. So far prayer conferences have been held at Okakarara, Oshakati, Otjiwarongo, Okahandja, Grootfontein, Tsumeb, Windhoek and Swakopmund. The Intercessors United also holds regional mini prayer conferences to reach people who would not be able to get to the yearly conference due to transport problems. Pastor Goody Nwagboso, the visionary of the conference, told New Era yesterday the involvement of different churches such as conservative, pentecoastal, evangelical and charismatic, among others, and the business community and other non-governmental organisations would make it a worthwhile gathering. “Their involvement has made it a unifying force in the body of Christ,” Pastor Nwagboso said. He said the conference would minister to individual needs as well as pray for specific issues such as the vision and leadership in churches, economic and moral issues as well as the education sector. Amongst the people that will minister at the conference are local church ministers, representatives of the Council of Churches in Namibia, Transformation Namibia and government officials. Nwagboso said individual people as well as businesses have testimonies of what has happened after prayer conferences. Apart from the annual conferences, there are regional prayer conferences that are held in the middle of the year. Two years ago, a regional prayer conference was held in Rundu with another one planned for the south of the country. “People realise the power of intercession and they are yearning to have it as well,” the pastor added. The conference opens this evening at 17h00 and ends on Monday morning.
