By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK A former ChargÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚© d’Affaires at the Dutch Embassy in Windhoek has been appointed Honorary Consul for Namibia in The Netherlands. This was announced by Namibia’s Ambassador in Brussels, Professor Peter Katjavivi. Cornelie van Waegeningh, a former senior official in the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took up her new position as the first woman consul in The Netherlands as honorary consul late last month. She is the second person to be appointed to this position by the Namibian Government in The Netherlands. “I have known Cornelie van Waegeningh for a number of years as a person of vast experience appropriate to her new assignment. In this respect, Namibia is fortunate to have her as our new honorary consul in The Netherlands. The Government of Namibia and the country’s embassy in the Benelux countries are delighted to have her as a partner. We are looking forward to work closely with her in our common endeavours to promote the interests of Namibia,” said Professor Katjavivi in a press release. The former first vice-chancellor of the University of Namibia characterised Van Waegeningh as a firm and devoted supporter of Namibia’s development who appreciates the complementary role of actors in society for the good of the country.
