By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK Cameras flashed and ululations pierced the air yesterday at the NBC when stars of the famous television Mexican soapie When You Are Mine Sylvia Navarro and Anette Michel appeared in person. Navarro, who portrays Paloma and Michel, who acts as Barbara arrived in the country yesterday morning for a four-day promotional visit. Escorted by three traffic cars and chauffeured in a latest blue BMW 320d, the two TV stars were received by cultural performances before they shared their views with members of the press. Dressed in simple attires, Paloma and Barbara expressed gratitude to Namibians for supporting the television series. Paloma, speaking in Spanish through a translator, told members of the press that she could not believe it when she learnt that Namibians love the soapie When You Are Mine. Jokingly in her Spanish accent she stated, “Thank you for crying with Paloma in the film.” Her acting mate Barbara added, “it is great sharing our work with the rest of the world. It is a good feeling to hear people shouting our names.” Despite Barbara playing what could be interpreted as a negative role, she is amazed by the positive and welcoming attitude being displayed by fans. There have been cases where actors are attacked in the real world due to the “bad” roles that they play in movies. The duo emphasised their love for acting. Paloma also admitted that in real life she once dated “Diego”, who is her lover in the series. The two actresses visited Seychelles before going to the Zambian capital Lusaka on a similar tour. Yesterday, they arrived in Namibia and so far have hosted a photo session with the public at the Zoo park Amphitheatre. A gala dinner will be hosted in their honour at the Windhoek Country Club and Resort this evening. A music show will be held for them at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. They are also expected to visit an orphanage before winding up their visit. Acting Director General of the NBC Stanley Simataa indicated that despite the institution’s current challenges, it still has a duty to inspire its customers. When You Are Mine is the most popular purchased programme in the country.
