Plans to Improve Music Award Event

Home Archived Plans to Improve Music Award Event

By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK A workshop was yesterday held by the organizers of the Sanlam NBC Music Awards to ensure transparency and greater public participation, states an invitation to selected people in the country’s music industry. The Sanlam NBC Music Awards was last year heavily criticized for ill-planning and technical hiccups during the live show at a well-known casino resort in the capital. Some of the complaints were that the event did not really promote Namibian music, but a conglomeration of American imitated rap music. “As committed corporate citizens we remain dedicated to present a much bigger and better event each year, characterized by a transparent and participatory process. It is against this background that it is considered urgently necessary to engage key stakeholders in the music industry to seek their views, comments, opinions and expectations on key issues for planning purposes to ensure a successful event,” said an invitation extended to guests. Some of the pertinent problems that were yesterday discussed included entry and nomination criteria, award categories, selection of judges, the voting process and criteria and award prizes and incentives. The event takes place again this year on December 1.
