By Kuvee Kangueehi Gobabis The Regional Secretary of the Swapo Party Youth League in the Omaheke Region Salomo Ngueza Hepundjua is under investigation after failure to account for some N$2 500 that was intended for the Swapo Youth League’s work assignment to the northern railway line. Members of the Omaheke Regional Executive Committee started the investigations after a party member, Uerikua Kavita, who donated the money discovered that the Swapo Youth League branch of Omaheke never went to work on the railway project. Kavita last month wrote a letter to Regional Coordinator of the Swapo Party in the Omaheke Region, Festus Ueitele and officially lodged the complaint. In his complaint, Kavita claimed that Hepundjua approached him first personally and then in writing to make a financial contribution to enable the Swapo Youth League to go and work on the northern railway line. It is alleged that Hepundjua insisted that the money be deposited into his personal account, saying it would take a long time to withdraw the money from the party’s account. Kavita demanded that since the trip to the North never materialized, investigations be instituted to determine what happened as the money belongs to the Swapo Party in the Omaheke Region or alternatively to the youth league of Omaheke. Ueitele confirmed the investigation but refused to divulge any further information on the issue. He noted that it is an internal matter that could not be discussed with the media but briefly noted that the matter was discussed at the Regional Executive Committee. New Era has in addition learned that Hepundjua also took furniture on hire purchase from MegaSave store in Gobabis for personal use and failed to pay for the items. The matter went for litigation and Swapo office equipment was on the verge of being auctioned on Saturday. Swapo office goods such as chairs, office desks, filling cabinets, office tables, conference tables and computers were about to go under the hammer and were only spared after the intervention of the office. Hepundjua could not be reached for comment yesterday. Hepundjua was suspended in 2004 together with another Swapo Youth league member Ambrosias Kandjii, but was reinstated last year. Meanwhile, the court case of another Swapo office bearer at the Omaheke Regional Office Castro Kavari who appeared in the Gobabis Magistrate Court on August 2 was postponed for further investigation. The matter of the suspended official has also been referred to the Swapo headquarters and the final decision on the fate of Kavari now rests with the Swapo Politburo. Kavari was suspended after he allegedly enticed a local white farmer to give him money in exchange for a report detailing investigations into the case of the mysterious deaths of a number of San people on the farmer’s property after consuming a poisonous substance. Meanwhile, on Sunday in the district conference at Otjinene, Tjinomuinjo Hengari was elected as the district coordinator, while Frans Mukuahima was elected as treasurer. Orpha Kanamuinjo was elected the district mobilization and information coordinator. The district coordinators and district mobilization and information coordinators of the different constituencies form part of the regional executive. The Swapo regional revitalization process has been completed in the following constituencies: Gobabis, Epukiro, Aminuis and Steinhausen. Next weekend, the elections will take place in the Kalahari Constituency while it is not clear yet when the Otjombinde constituency will elect its office bearers.
