By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK A fifty-three-year-old woman from Outjo is fighting for her life at Medi-Clinic hospital in the capital after she suffered multiple knife wounds on both sides of her neck, chest and stomach. The brutal attack took place last Friday at about 20h30 at Vingerklip Lodge between Outjo and Khorixas, where two robbers armed with a knife forcefully entered the lodge and demanded money from the victim, who happens to be the lodge owner, the police reported. The victim Ingrid Rechow was taken by surprise on Friday evening when two men knocked at her front door and she opened for them, thinking it was one of her workers. One of the lodge foremen, who at that time came from the fields, saw what happened and fired a shot at one of the assailants. But the intruders managed to flee the scene on foot after one of them suffered an injury in the arm. But following their footprints, the police managed to apprehend the two robbers. Police are investigating at least five different cases of culpable homicide in which five lives were lost in road accidents over the weekend. – In one of the road accidents on Friday, 38-year-old Envula Salimi died when the driver of a metallic blue Suzuki she was travelling in lost control and overturned 57 km outside Otjiwarongo. – On the same day, about 20 km outside the coastal town of Walvis Bay, a 25-year-old passenger died when a Toyota minibus transporting a film crew from Walvis Bay to Swakopmund experienced a tyre burst causing the vehicle to overturn. – On Saturday between Kalkrand and Rehoboth, a VW Jetta collided with VW Polo resulting in the drivers of both vehicles to lose control, with their vehicles overturning. The Jetta burst into flames with the driver and one passenger perishing in the inferno. On the same day in the capital, one person identified as Voul Rose died on the spot when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle he was driving and it overturned. -Two other collisions were recorded over the weekend with two people in different incidences sustaining serious injuries. In two different occasions, two people lost their lives after they were run over by motor vehicles. On the Oshakati/Okahao main road, 77-year-old Imanuel Tjawalapi was fatally bumped by a motor vehicle. A pedestrian sustained a broken leg on the Kalkrand/Rehoboth road. Police last Friday arrested a 43-year-old Namibian male, who is alleged to have murdered his girlfriend. Claudine Rossouw was found dead in her house in Academia in Windhoek. * In another killing, Emilie Palmer aged 25 was shot and killed after a fight erupted between three people. Police report the suspects alleged that they were firing warning shots, one of which struck the deceased. Two suspects were arrested. Another young man (22) Cornelius Jagger was stabbed with an unknown object on the left side of the neck and died. The Minister of Works, Transport and Communication, Joel Kaapanda, has reiterated his call upon all traffic law enforcement agencies to increase their activities in curbing lawlessness on the roads. Namibian drivers are well known for disrespecting laws and regulations that is visible in road rage, over-speeding and disregard of the rights of fellow road users. Kaapanda says there is a great need for Namibians to build a culture of care, compassion and most importantly, acceptance of road ethics. Road users are reminded to exercise restraint at all times by observing prescribed road limits, wearing seat belts, staying sober behind the wheel and never to overtake when and where it is not safe to do so.
