Home Archived Arts Council Gets an Administrator

By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK In response to advertisements earlier this year, an administrator for the National Arts Council is soon to be appointed, the vice-chairperson of the Council told Art/Life this week. According to Alma Ulamba, more than 60 applications were received for the post aimed at setting up an administrative structure and the running of the day-to-day business of the Arts Council of Namibia. Eleven applicants from a wide spectrum in the arts community and the private sector were short-listed and last Friday interviewed for the post by the council’s board. Up to now the chairman of the council, Vincent Mwemba, had been doing the work of the council on a temporary basis. The Namibia Arts Council was established last year through an Act of Parliament and operates under the ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture. It is expected that the successful candidate will take up the position of administrator within the next two weeks.
