By Wonder Guchu WINDHOEK A Kunene rural school, Cornelius Goreseb, scooped two prizes worth N$18ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000 in the Namibian Stock Exchange Scholar Investment Challenge on Saturday at the Safari Hotel. The competition aims at raising awareness of financial markets and investment in listed shares among various participants. The students were asked to trade with an imaginary amount of N$100ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000 buying shares listed on the NSX and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange Securities. Cornelius Goreseb School came out fourth in the Innovative Team category which carried a N$3ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000 prize and was first in the Strong Competitors’ category worth N$15ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000 sponsored by Trustco. The head of department for Commercial subjects, Erna Esme Honnes, could not contain her joy. “Our school is a rural one, and we struggled to raise money for transport. I had to use my own car. We have no phone and no access to fax or internet. Accessing such services is expensive. But I told the three teams I worked for that our motto was ‘Zero Tolerance for Laziness’ and it has worked,” she said, adding that the money would be used for buying copy paper for the girls. The South African Reserve Bank Governor, Tito Mboweni, was the guest of honour.
