By Michael Liswaniso OPUWO In what seems to be a very rare and bizarre case in the regional capital of Kunene, Opuwo, a 16-year-old learner of Putwavanga Junior Secondary School, Epafras Venasius, allegedly stabbed to death a 25-year-old fellow resident, Thomas Lebeus, last Friday. The incident took place at a newly opened shebeen called Wearself in the Katutura location at around 01h00. Katutura location has no electricity. According to the crime report of the police, the deceased and the assailant had quarreled, then Venasius reportedly drew a knife and stabbed Lebeus in the left side of his chest. Lebeus was transported to the Opuwo state hospital, where he was also temporarily employed as a cleaner, for medical treatment. But he died on arrival. New Era was reliably informed that after the incident the assailant fled to Okahao in the Omusati Region, but he was apprehended later. He remains in police custody. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed while the post-mortem will be carried out soon, according to the police. In other crime cases a woman, whose age is unknown but identified as Uatondonganda Tjambiru of the Okumbare area at Sierra Kafema lodge, died as a result of suffocation after a fight. The police report said the deceased had quarreled with her boyfriend, Willem Siwombe, aged 56 years. The quarrel broke into a fight. The brother of the deceased who was present at the scene was also attacked with a panga when he intervened in an effort to stop the trouble. He sustained serious injuries on his left ear and neck. The suspect fled into the mountains. The Opuwo police also reported a case of attempted suicide on Saturday last week after a 20-year-old man identified as Risee Kapetja stabbed himself with an okapi jack-knife three times in the chest. He seriously injured himself and was transported to the Opuwo state hospital where he is receiving medical treatment. His condition is however critical. According to the police, Kapetja tried to kill himself because his girlfriend had terminated their relationship. A case of negligent driving was also reported, wherein a 37-year-old driver of a white Colt belonging to the Department of Forestry lost control over the vehicle and as a result hit the Etosha National Park fence. Both the driver and two other passengers, identified as Uatezako Tjiuma and Joseph Katjouanga, whose ages are unknown, survived the accident without any injuries while the vehicle’s bonnet and canopy suffered slight damage.
