By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK The Associated Works of Art (TAWA) is the latest and newest community organization to appear on the cultural horizon of the country. TAWA is run by a committee of four young people under the leadership of poet Macaba Hendricks. According to a project proposal handed to Art/Life, one of the first initiatives of the organization is a project titled Say a Word Platform Show, an idea that started as a radio show in north-eastern Namibia. “The project allows for individual performers of music, comedy, drama, lyrics, poetry and story-telling. Finances permitting, the show will take place thrice a week at different venues,” the project proposal says. Stakeholders mentioned in the proposal include seven ministries and a host of media outlets. “The aims and objectives include offering opportunities to vulnerable persons to express their creative feelings and to reach out to everyone with a creative inclination through acting, story telling and poetry,” the proposal says. The target areas of operation intended include out of school youth, youth centers, teachers resource centers, children’s homes, orphans, vulnerable children and HIV/AIDS centers.
