By Frederick B. Philander ART/LIFE is today celebrating its third anniversary after its timely inception and inclusion in New Era in January 2003. From the beginning, the weekly arts and culture promoting segment has been in the forefront of reporting on arts and culture, and has distinguished itself from opposition newspaper efforts in the same sphere by far outdoing its rivals with concise, precise and trustworthy reporting on basically all arts and national cultural activities. The impact of Art/Life in the Namibian cultural life is recognized locally and internationally as a credible documentation of developments in the art and cultural world of Namibia. Art/Life’s undoubted fearless stance of criticizing, encouraging and advising most art and culture efforts, has made it an institution seldom missed by serious-minded artists, academics and intellectuals in the country and elsewhere. We would like to thank all artists and contributors over the past three years and also to encourage them to continue helping to create the much longed-for, spontaneous, national culture the country strives for. In 2007, we would like to excel and improve in what we do best, informing, entertaining and enlightening the nation through Art/Life in a sensible way and manner – something highly appreciated by our many readers.
