By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK The second phase of a three-year teach-the-teachers project by the Oruuano Artists Union ends today in the capital and will be officially closed this morning by the Minister of Education, Nangolo Mbumba. Three lecturers of the College of the Arts were involved in the workshop training and empowering about 30 selected teachers from around the country. “Participants have this time been trained as part of capacity-building in the art of arts teaching. They have been strengthened in choir singing, theory, dancing, playing traditional drums, the keyboard and the bass guitar,” said Finnish tutor and facilitator, Lissu Elenius. The participants were also phased into the actual practical teaching of arts and culture in Namibian schools. “We have focused on many exercises on how to implement the curriculum in a practical manner in classrooms, based on our own experiences in Finnish schools. The next phase of the course will focus more on this aspect next year,” said Finnish tutor, Jussi Paalanen.
