Demands for Suspension of CIC’s Operations Manager

Home Archived Demands for Suspension of CIC’s Operations Manager

By Kuvee Kangueehi WINDHOEK The Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (Nafau) is demanding the suspension of Gunter Krauer, Operations Manager at Commercial Investment Corporation, accusing him of alleged racism and unfair labour practices. Close to a hundred workers marched to the head office of CIC on Friday and handed over a petition in which they demand the suspension of Krauer. The workers claim that Krauer has a negative autocratic attitude towards his subordinates and does not respect his workers at all. “We are demanding the immediate eradication of discriminatory elements and also demand the immediate equal implementation of the Company Policy and Procedures.” The workers also questioned why the company only suspended one employee and not Krauer if both had committed the same crime. The workers further questioned why Krauer was allowed to have legal representation at his disciplinary hearing whilst this was not the case for the other suspended. In the petition the workers further accused management of practising a discriminatory leadership style. “This is unacceptable as it is characterized by the past mentality of apartheid.” The petition was received by the company’s general manager, Marcel Lamprecht, who promised to respond in writting before the union-set deadline of January 24, 2007.
