By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK Seventeen Namibian students who were on their way to their studies in Zimbabwe were admitted to the Maun hospital in Botswana after the bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident over the weekend. The accident took place seven kilometers from Sehitwa at Machabe Cattle Post along the Ghanzi-Maun road. Botswana Police spokesperson in Gaborone, Witness Bosija, confirmed the accident to New Era yesterday. Bosija revealed the accident took place at around 5 am on Saturday, when the bus leading the convoy of five buses stopped abruptly to allow donkeys to cross the road. Another bus that was following closely hit the leading bus from behind injuring seventeen passengers. Bosija could not reveal the condition of the seventeen Namibians, but said six of the victims were admitted to the Maun hospital while three were transferred to Nyangagwe hospital in Francistown. The rest (eight) were discharged the same day and proceeded with the trip. The driver of the bus that hit the other has been charged with driving without due care and attention. The students are going to attend courses in Zimbabwe under the SADC Protocol on Education and Training. Namibia has sent students specifically for formal training especially in the areas of mathematics, science, agriculture and English, to Zimbabwe.
