WINDHOEK The technical inspection of the new State House will be completed at the end of this month, the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication (MWTC)’s public relations officer confirmed to Nampa on Tuesday. Julius Ngweda said in an interview that so far everything is going according to plan, adding: “We are happy about it.” He said the technical inspection by engineers who have been supervising the construction from the beginning is due to finish in two days. “Apart from technical inspection, everything including construction of the shrine is completed,” he confirmed. He indicated that the furnishing of the building will commence as soon as the inspection is completed. The furnishing process will be completed at the end of October this year, he added. He said the new State House is expected to be inaugurated at the end of this year if everything goes according to plan. President Hifikepunye Pohamba, accompanied by Founding President Dr Sam Nujoma, last year took a tour of the long-awaited multi-million-dollar new State House complex located at Windhoek’s Auasblick. The former and current Head of State took a two-hour inspection of the Korean-built structure. Members of Parliament in April this year also toured the complex. Under Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication Ben Kathindi told the MPs that the building does not have a name, and that it is up to them and the entire country to name the complex. So far the construction of the shrine has cost more than N$300 million. The Chinese government has made N$50 million available for the construction of the project. – Nampa
