… Big response to course

OSHAKATI –
Oshakati hosted the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Introductory Coaching Course that attracted thirty-three participants who were taken through the ropes in the basics of coaching under the tutorship of NFA coaching instructor, Max ‘Zoda’ Johnson.

The 5-day course, which started on February 10, formed part of the series of introductory coaching courses the NFA education office is rolling out in the country.

Oshana regional vice-chairman Bertus Nandango called on the participants to work hard and improve the game in their respective regions. “It is very important that you take this course seriously and not just for the certificate of attendance, but to take whatever you learn here to your respective areas and try to impact it on the youth you work with.

“You have to work hard in seeing yourself become a top coach in the country and take up the positions in coaching in our elite league and our national teams, be it Under 17, Under 19 or the senior national team,” Nandango said.

Nandango also sang praises of Johnson, who was once a Brave Warriors mentor: “Max Johnson is one of the fortunate top local coaches who in his prime had the chance to coach premier league team Chief Santos and also coached the senior national team. I’m therefore encouraging you to emulate the feat achieved by this man.”

He further stressed to the participants that they would be monitored on their progress upon which their invitation to other advance courses would depend. He said that the association would closely monitor the progress of the participants in their respective regions and villages including their contribution to the overall development of football in the country, which would determine future invitations should the opportunity again arise.

The Gobabis leg of the introductory course is also in full swing this week with coaching instructor Willy Kapukare facilitating the course. Meanwhile, the Mariental phase has been postponed indefinitely due to the low turnout of participants.

Former Hungry Lions and Tigers FC prolific net rattler, Foresta Nicodemus, was the popular face among the 33 participants. The full list reads as follows:
