WINDHOEK – Alleged housebreaker, George Ngutupa Kahuure (23), was granted bail of N$5 000 in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. 

Kahuure was arrested last Sunday after his mother allegedly called the complainant and informed him that she had found his passport in her son’s room. It is alleged that Kahuure broke into the complainant’s house on Sunday, February 02 and stole various items worth a combined N$29 468. He was charged with housebreaking with intent to steal and theft. Kahuure was not asked to plead on Tuesday and after his right to legal representation was explained to him, he indicated that he would apply for legal aid. Prosecutor Verinao Kamahene asked for the matter to be postponed pending further police investigation and proposed bail of N$10 000 to which the accused objected, saying he cannot afford such an amount since he is unemployed. Magistrate Hileni Kavara took pity on the young man and granted him bail of N$5 000, which no doubt his mother will have to pay.

It is alleged Kahuure broke into the house on Curie Street in Windhoek West and stole a Louise Vuitton purse worth N$2 500, a Guess watch worth N$2 500, one LV manbag valued at N$500, a Burberry manbag worth N$500, one Polo bag valued at N$799 and one iPhone worth N$10 000. Other missing items include a iPad 4 worth N$6 500, one Nokia Express cellphone worth N$1 000, a pair of Converse sneakers valued at N$699, Black Havanas worth N$450, a Tempo watch worth N$750, Carolina Herrera Cologne worth N$920, a Gucci manbag worth N$500, one New York branded bag worth N$500, one Guess wallet with N$200 cash inside worth N$650, one iPad 4 cover worth N$250 and one Silver necklace with Black cross worth N$250. Also among the missing items are the complainant’s personal documents. None of the missing items were recovered. The case was postponed to March 28 for further investigation and for Kahuure to apply for legal aid.
