Home Sports Tigers thrash Civics 1-0

WINDHOEK – A 10-men Tigers put up a rampant performance to overpower an equally impressive Civics, as Tura Magic, Ramblers, Blue Waters, Blue Boys and Bee Bob Brothers amongst others also booked places into the last-16 of the Bidvest Namibia Cup over the weekend.

Tigers took on Civics in an all-premier league encounter at the Sam Nujoma Stadium that saw Civics fail to capitalize on an early opportunity after Maxwell Plaatjies was denied by Tigers goalie Lloyd Kazapua from the penalty spot. But Tigers soon dusted themselves off when Absalom Iimbondi gave the boys from Shandumbala the lead from a well-taken goal. Tigers had defender Moses Peinge sent off for a second bookable offense midway into the first half leaving only ten men for the rest of the game. Earlier in the day at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, Hardap Region’s Spiders lost 4-2 to the Otjozondjupa Region’s Tropical Heat. Aloysius Veldskoen and Johan Van Wyk gave a resounding lead before Pengeyo Tateati’s double effort extended their lead. Heat responded with two goals from Muandjendavi Muandjilatji and Kandandi Johannes to finish the encounter 4-2 in favour of Spiders. Petrus Boois and Neville Brinkmann scored for Bee Bob Brothers as they marched past the spirited Kunene Region’s Black Africa Warriors 2-1 with Donald Muzengua scoring for Warriors, while last year’s losing finalists Mighty Gunners lost 3-2 to Citizens as Charles Uirab, John Abiatar and Lepley So-abeb scored for the winners, with Werner Uaputauka and Germanus Tjipuna on target for Gunners.

At the Rundu Sports Stadium, captain Neville Tjiueza’s brace was enough to inspire Tura Magic into the next round of the competition when they waltz past King Kauluma Palace via a 2-0 victory. Khomasdal Football Academy whitewashed Rundu’s Young Tops 5-0, while United Stars’ emphatic 3-1 win over Touch & Go concluded the day’s proceedings that side. At the Kuisebmund Stadium in Walvis Bay, Blue Birds scored seven unanswered goals (7-0) to find their way past the Kavango Region’s  Once Again FC, while Blue Waters replicated the same score-line when they hammered another Rundu-based side Julinho Sporting 7-0. Blue Boys defeated the Omaheke Region’s  Young Africans 2-0, with Ramblers beating Young Stars from the Omusati Region 3-1.
