ONGWEDIVA – A 17-year-old girl recently became a victim of escalating gender-based violence when she was allegedly raped by her neighbour at the village of Eendombe in the Ogongo constituency on Friday.
It is alleged that the suspect jumped through the victims window which was already broken and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. It is also alleged that the suspect knows about the victim’s mental instability. The victim lives with a young man who was not at home at the time when the culprit forced himself on the young girl. The suspect is still at large. Still in the Omusati Region, an elderly man died after he was stabbed with a panga at 23h00 on Thursday evening. It is alleged that the 64-year-old suspect from Onandjo, a village in the Otamanzi constituency was on his way home from the “Oshigongi Shomeya” cuca shops when the 49-year-old Hifikepunye Matheus Mwatila ambushed him and confronted him about ostensibly protecting people who allow their animals to roam and feed in other people’s mahangu fields. It is further alleged that Mwatila started the fight by hitting the 64-year-old Iiyambo Geriata on the head with a castle wine bottle containing water. Although Geriata was not hurt he assumed that he was bleeding, because because he was all wet.
Geriata therefore took out his panga and struck Mwatila on the arm. Mwatila also responded by stabbing Mwatila in the arm before he fell down. When Geriata saw Mwatile on the ground he fled the scene. Mwatila however could not get to the hospital on time and was only taken to the hospital the following day. Mwatila died before he could receive treatment at the Oshikuku Roman Catholic Hospital. Geriata was arrested and will appear in the Okahao Magistrate’s Court tomorrow. Mwatila is from Omundudu, a village in the Endola constituency but was employed as a domestic worker at Ondjungulume in the Uuvudhiya constituency.
