John Muyamba
WINDHOEK – Hallo, my name is John, John Muyamba. I am sure avid readers of this newspaper have noticed that name as a byline somewhere in the pages over the past weeks. Please do welcome me! Thank you, thank you!
I am sure you have been wondering who I am, where I’m from and how do I look like? Well allow me to introduce myself. As for how this young handsome man looks like, cast your eyes to the side of this column. Yep, that picture. That is me. A young ambitious fellow, who hails from the Kavango Region, although I cannot tell if I am from Kavango east or west region. I really do not know.
But, I am what you may call a ‘Kavango’. I am half east and half west (lol). If the delimitation committee does in the future establish a ‘Central Kavango’ region, then that would be me, my area of origin. But which region we are from does not matter in this beautiful Namibia now, does it?
It shouldn’t and does not define who I am. Because I am a funny and down to earth guy. People have even gone as far as to say ‘I am great company,’ which is true, because I am. Even if I say so myself. I spent most of my formative years in Widhoek, far from the banks of the Kavango River. A little secret – those who did listen to NBC Rukavango, in 2012, might remember a sweet voice rocking the airwaves, presenting the agriculture show and environmental issues show. Yes, that was me. I know, I dissapeared like a one hit song wonder. I am sorry.
But I had to move on. I mean I am young and ambitious so I took on another challenge as children’s radio technical producer for Uitani Childline Radio, until New Era Publication Corporation found me. And here I am. I am happy to be part of this team. I love it in Windhoek, but I love it more being in my home town. That is why I am going back to the banks of the Okavango River to explore the two regions that I have been assigned to cover. I will be based in Rundu and I am ready for the challenge. Covering the west and east of Kavango, getting to know its people again, and learning different things. I just hope I still know my way around the region, as I used to. But I am ready all the same. You see, I always had a dream of becoming a journalist and when I was young, people would say being a journalist will get you beaten when you report stories that antagonise people. That made me doubt my dream since I am not a fighter.
I am a loving person, seriously, I am. Thus, as I grew older I told myself that I will not let what people say stop me from achieving my dreams, and guess what?
I did exactly that and now I’m going to inform the nation from Kavango! So keep your eyes on the paper, now that you know John, John Muyamba. Eewa!
