Meatco announces producer price increase

Home Business Meatco announces producer price increase

WINDHOEK – Meatco this week increased its average producer price by N$3.62/kg, a massive jump from the previous week’s N$1.03 increase.

Meatco says the benefit of this price increase extends to all producers, including those in the Northern Communal Areas. The biggest price increases were effected for B- and C-grade animals at N$4.35 and N$4.96 respectively over the last week alone, which is the category in which the majority of slaughter ox produced in Namibia fall. Corporate affairs manager of Meatco, Mario Poolman, yesterday told New Era that the huge jump in prices paid to the Namibian producer is proof of what Meatco has been saying all along when it applied for the biggest cut of the Norwegian quota, since the company slaughters some 94 percent of all cattle in the country.

“We promised our producers that the benefits of the increase in the Norwegian quota would be carried over to them. “Now it’s there for everybody to see and all our producers are to benefit from the better prices. Good news for all our producers,” he said.
