WINDHOEK – The 3rd edition of the annual Bank Windhoek Long Course Swimming Gala and Aquapentathlon will take place at the Olympia swimming pool this weekend.
Although various schools are still having their yearly athletic meets, the gala is expected to be well attended with some of Namibia’s best swimmers in action. Zanré Oberholzer, leading Namibian female swimmer according on FINA points, is currently taking her training to another level for her much anticpated participation in the World Junior Olympic Swimming Games in August this year. She is the only Namibian youth swimmer who has qualified with an ‘A’ qualifying time for her effort in the 200m backstroke. Other strong youth swimmers in this weekend’s competition are Antonia Roth, Gabriella Liebenberg, Nicolai Flemming, Sonja Adelaar, Kiara Schatz and Lushano Lamprecht. Senior swimmers, Daniela Lindemeier, who recently broke the 100m breaststroke open record at the KZN championship last year in December and Quinton Delie, will certainly want to do well before their partcipation at the South African Senior National Competition in April this year.
Junior swimmers have a last chance to qualify for the Level 1, 2 and 3 galas in South Africa. Swimmers to watch will be Corne le Roux, Heleni Stergiadis, Zuné Weber, Ju-Ane Oberholzer, Ronan Wantenaar, Rene Viljoen and the Esslinger sisters Carissa and Tiane. “Please come and support our swimmers at this weekend’s galas.
