WINDHOEK – To mark the Glasgow 2014 Queen’s Baton Relay passing through Namibia on its way to the 20th Commonwealth Games in Scotland, the British High Commission will donate sports materialS valued at more than N$12.000 to the offices of local NGO “Physically Active Youth Namibia” (PAY) in Katutura.
The baton and the officials of the Commonwealth Games Federation will be present at the event, in addition to the British High Commissioner, H.E. Marianne Young, as well as Namibian cyclist Dan Craven. PAY, under the leadership of Marie-Jeanne Ndimbira, organizes after school activity programmes that enable approximately 100 registered participants per term to benefit from academic tutoring, a light meal and sports programmes every day. Every Friday the format is changed to incorporate life skills training, the aim of which is to foster critical thinking among youth and empower them to become active agents of change in their communities, as well as responsible global citizens.
The British donation will support PAY in their planned nationwide roll-out of activities in 2014/15. This support to PAY helps to deliver a strong local legacy from the Commonwealth Games to Namibia.
Media representatives are invited to attend the event tomorrow at the premises of PAY, Dr. Leonard Aula Str, next to the KCAC, in Katutura.
