SPCA praises the motor industry

AT  a time of the year when most companies have shut shop, and people have fled their work responsibilities in search of a holiday destination, the chances of being assisted by certain of the auto industry service providers, seems like a slim chance.

On the contrary, as it appeared when three large companies jumped in to assist in the repairs of both SPCA ‘mercy’ vehicles which had been taken off the road due to mechanical problems the week before Xmas. And without batting an eye lid gave the most outstanding service to this charitable animal organisation.

Mention must be made to Tow-In-Specialist, Mr Exhaust & Mr Tyre and Novel Ford Workshop, who all proved that there are companies operating in this town that really do provide excellent service all year round and go that extra mile.

The festive season is a particularly bad time of the year for the SPCA who have their hands full with cruelty inspections, stray pick up’s, vet drop off’s,  you name it, and to be faced with both vehicles unable to operate  because of technical problems  –  this nothing short of a crisis for the animal shelter.

With the engine overheating on the SPCA Ford Bantam bakkie, the vehicle was brought to a halt, and required being towed off the SPCA premises to Novel Ford who had to replace a water cooler system on vehicle before the engine blew.

Tow -In –Specialists were there in a jiffy and wasted no time in loading the bakkie and getting it in to the workshop.  The company which has been in business for over 13 years operates with a fleet of over 30 vehicles ranging from everything from small to heavy duty recovery trucks, equipped to recover and tow all types of vehicles in any situation.

Jan Kritzinger (Owner) said, “Whilst our aim is to run a thriving business operation, we also like to reach out to reach out to charitable organisations like the SPCA and help where we can.

“Because it was a critical time for the SPCA, and their need to have their cars running for the benefit of the animals, meant that we were more than ready to tow help,” added Kritzinger.

At the same time the exhaust system on their Nissan 1400 bakkie had dislodged and had broken off, which apart from being damaging to the car, it also sounded like a souped up hot rod . An obliging Mr Exhaust & Mr Tyre stepped up to the occasion, and replaced and welded  the necessary exhaust parts, getting the vehicle up and running the same day.

Gerald Geldenhuys (Manager Mr Exhaust & Mr Tyre) said because they are running such a successful business which has been operating for 27 years,  there is a need to give something back to the community, and they were glad to have been of assistance to the SPCA.

No job is too big or small for the Novel Ford workshop, so when Service Manager Johan Steenkamp, made time to fit in the Bantam bakkie into their end of year busy work schedule, no one could believe it. The Ford Bantam bakkie was overheating and in danger of blowing the engine, and needed a water pump to be replaced as well as a new fan belt.    Novel Ford has once again stepped up to the call from the SPCA to assist the SPCA on the much needed repairs on their mercy vehicle.

A spokesperson from the SPCA commended the work and assistance of the three companies, who stepped forward and helped. “Words cannot express our gratitude to these companies for their contribution to the SPCA over December, and not only are we thankful for their generosity in donating their services to us, but for their willingness to hold our hands in a time of need.”
