WINDHOEK – Two men who conned a prospective job seeker into paying them tens of thousands of dollars was granted bail of N$2 000 each after a successful formal bail application before Magistrate Velikoshi Ileni Tumgweni.
They made a first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court last week Wednesday before Magistrate Justine Asino on a charge of theft when the state objected to the granting of bail. Prosecutor Alexander Gairiseb now informed the court that the State no longer objects to bail subject to the condition that they do not directly or indirectly contact the complainant, Johanna Kashaalwa. Gairiseb told the court during the accused persons’ first appearance that it cannot be excluded that the charges could however be amended as the investigation continue to include fraud amongst others.
It is alleged that 38-year-old Malcon Hangula and 32-year-old Thomas Indongo duped the complainant into paying them N$57 700 over a period of time to secure her employment as either a cleaner or driver in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture. Both accused indicated to Magistrate Justine Asino that they would engage a private lawyer to defend them and they were not asked to plead to the charges. Prosecutor Alexander Gairiseb asked the court to remand the matter to February 25 for further investigation and for the accused to obtain legal representation.
